The Crow (1994)
The Crow (2024) is set to hit theaters this August, so I decided to watch the original movie from 1994 which is now streaming on Paramount+. This superhero action movie stars Brandon Lee as Eric who is brutally murdered along with his fiancé the night before their wedding. One year later, he is resurrected so he can enact vengeance on the perpetrators. As many are aware, this served as Lee's final film as he was fatally shot whilst filming when a prop gun held by co-star Michael Massee fired a real bullet into Lee's abdomen. Even though this was deemed a complete accident and was not Massee's fault, he was so distraught after the tragedy that he retired from acting for a year and was plagued with nightmares of the event for the rest of his life.
This movie is awesome, and director Alex Proyas did a wonderful job of bringing James O'Barr's comic book to life. What really stuck with me was the performance by both Brandon Lee and Michael Wincott who played the film's main villain. Every good revenge story needs a kickass hero and a badass villain to match his strength and swagger and these two were a perfect duo, and I loved every second that they were on screen. The way this film was shot was very cool and I really liked the use of rain low lit shots to add to the overall aesthetic.
If you are looking for an entertaining revenge movie with a ton of action and really badass characters, I recommend checking out The Crow which is streaming on Paramount+ and then checking out The Crow (2024) when it hits theaters next month.
Thanks for reading!
