Eric (Mini-series)

All episodes of the new drama thriller Eric starring Benedict Cumberbatch are now streaming on Netflix. This miniseries created by Abi Morgan follows Vincent, a puppeteer for a successful kids show, who's young son Edgar goes missing and it is Vincent's fault. In his journey to find his son, Vincent finds help from an unlikely source, a puppet that his son created named Eric.

I really liked this show and enjoyed that the main focus was not on whether or not Edgar is ok, but rather it the trauma that the parents are going through. We find out where Edgar is early on in the series and I really enjoyed that the story is not about him, but more about the parents coping and dealing in their own way. The acting was brilliant especially by Cumberbatch and Gaby Hoffman who plays Cassie, Edgar's mother. The writing was very clever as well. I enjoyed the metaphor that Eric the puppet resembled as I thought it was a good comparison to Vincent's inner voice and how he saw himself.

Eric is now streaming on Netflix, and I recommend checking it out. Just be warned, the concept is dark and heavy, and it is definitely not to be considered a "feel good" show.
