Smile 2
The other night, my friends and I went to the theaters to see Smile 2, written and directed by Parker Finn and starring Naomi Scott. This movie picks up 6 days after the events of Smile and we see Joel from the first movie try and fail to defeat the monster as it moves onto another host, and eventually finds its way to super pop star, Skye Riley.
This movie is so much better than its predecessor! I remember thinking that Smile was an ok horror film with a really cool premise that could have been executed better. Well, whatever they were missing in Smile, they found in Smile 2. In this movie, they ramped up the gore and jump scare effects which both made this movie more enjoyable and more frightening. I also felt like the writing got a lot better as there were lots of twists and turns that kept me guessing the whole time, and I still am not exactly sure what was real and what was fabricated by the monster. The movie also had a message within the story as well, shining a harsh light on the pressures that young stars have to endure. Finn did such a good job with this film and tied the story together with the first one so nicely that it actually made me appreciate the first movie a little more. Lastly, i thought that the acting in this film was superb. Naomi Scott delivered an inspired performance as Skye Riley and totally stole the show. It was the type of performance that made you the viewer feel her pain and fear.
Smile 2 it totally living up the hype and well worth the price of admission. I strongly recommend going to see it in theaters while you still can!
