The Wild Robot

Sometimes when I get in my own head, or when I am stressed out, I like to go to the movies by myself. When I am in the theater, I am alone where it is just me and the story on the big screen taking me away to anywhere but reality. Earlier this week, I was having one of those days where I couldn't get out of my own head and I knew that I needed a movie night just for myself, so I went and saw the new Dreamworks animation film, The Wild Robot. This movie, based off the book by Peter Book, was written and directed by the extremely talented storyteller, Chris Sanders. For those of you who do not know him by name, Sanders is responsible for giving us such Disney classics as Mulan and Lili & Stitch and he also helped with the story for Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King. I should be specific here and state that he worked on the screenplays for the original animated aforementioned films and not their sub-par remakes.

Ever since I got out of the movie theater, this movie is all I can talk about. I truly cannot get enough of it, and I certainly will be rewatching it once it gets released to streaming. This is, in my opinion, Dreamwork's best animated feature since Shrek. This movie is a very moving and visually stunning story about a robot who finds herself raising an orphaned goose with the help of a sympathetic fox. The Wild Robot is a beautiful take on parenthood and shares a great message that no one has the no-how, or programming, to be a parent and sometimes you need to be more than what your "programming" dictates.

The Wild Robot is a beautifully made film that hits you really hard right in the feels. It features strong voice-over performances delivered by Lupita Nyong'o and Pedro Pascal and includes incredibly stunning visuals that cannot be described in a movie blog. I urge you to go see this film on the big screen while you can. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
