Speak No Evil (2024)

Earlier this week I went and saw the new horror thriller, Speak No Evil, now playing in theaters everywhere. Directed by James Watkins and starring James McAvoy, Mackenzie Davis, and Scoot McNairy, this remake of the 2022 Danish film of the same name follows an American family who accepts an invitation to spend a weekend with a family that they met briefly while on vacation in Italy.

If you follow my blog, you may remember my review of the original Speak No Evil film from 2022. In this review, I lightly touched on the new film and how I was on the fence on whether or not I thought that the remake would worth watching. I was nervous given the fact that the original film had only come out 2 years ago, they seemed to be really heavily marketing this film which is never a good sign. I am so happy that I decided to see this movie because it was incredibly well done! I felt that Watkins did an amazing job of holding true to the story created by the Tafdrup brothers and expanding on it to make it even better. The acting by the entire cast was awesome, especially by McAvoy, and the chemistry between Davis and McNairy was brilliant which makes sense because the pair spent 4 seasons playing business partners in AMC's Halt and Catch Fire.

Everyone involved in this movie did their job wonderfully and the result was an absolutely amazing movie. It was every bit entertaining and meaningful with a little bit of sexy mixed in with comedy, and a healthy dose of scary as well. I am honestly in shock at how much I loved this movie, and I strongly recommend checking out both this one while it is in theaters, as well as the original film which is currently streaming on Shudder. Even though I had seen the original film prior to this one and had an idea of what was going to happen, I was still on the edge of my seat the entire time. That, if nothing else, is a true testament to the superb filmmaking that was on display here.
