Blink Twice

Zoe Kravitz's directorial debut, Blink Twice, is now in theaters and it is intense! Starring Naomi Ackie and Channing Tatum, this psychological mystery thriller hits the ground running right from the start. The film also features Christian Slater, Kyle MacLachlan, Haley Joel Osment, and Adria Arjona and centers around a group of people vacationing at tech mogul, Slater King's, private island. Not long after their arrival, what seemed to be a perfect paradise turns out to be the exact opposite.....for some of the guests.

I was shocked to learn that this is only the first film directed by Zoe Kravits, who also co-wrote the screenplay alongside E.T. Feigenbaum. I feel that it is just very rare to see such masterful filmmaking on the very first try. This film was so well made and well written that I cannot wait to see what else Kravitz has in store because she truly has a great talent in storytelling. However, it was not just the storytelling and film style that stole this cinephile's heart. The acting by the entire ensemble was superb but above all else, Channing Tatum's performance as the billionaire tech mogul, Slater King, is likely the best in his career so far. In this performance, he introduced us to a totally new side of Tatum that I do not believe we have ever been privileged to see before. He was deep, complicated, charming, and he was hateable! I had never seen Channing Tatum in a role where I hated him but also kind of liked him at the same time. For anyone who doubts Tatum's ability as a seriously good actor, go and see this movie and I promise you, your opinion will change.

This is one of those movies that will be able to stand up on its own over time as a true classic. It may not win any major awards or even receive any nominations, but it will forever be a movie that thriller fans will look to when they think of a good thriller movie. I highly recommend going to see this movie in theaters while you still can.
