Longlegs
Whenever a new movie hits theaters there is always a certain amount of hype around it. Sometimes a movie lives up to that hype, and other times it falls short. Sadly, Longlegs directed and written by Oz Perkins, is in the category of movies that fall short. This crime thriller starring Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage centers around newly promoted FBI agent, Lee Harker (Monroe), who takes on the case of the birthday murders hunts a sinister serial killer named Longlegs (Cage).
I was extremely excited to see this movie and I really wanted to like it, but sadly, I hated this film. I do recognize that I bought too much into the hype and my expectations for this movie were too high but regardless of that fact I still did not enjoy the movie. I found this movie to be overall very boring and I strongly disliked the ending. I kept nodding off and was just begging for something to happen. I also did not enjoy Cage's performance as Longlegs, but do not necessarily believe that it was a bad performance. He did a good job of embodying the crazy psycho that is Longlegs, but I felt that it was too much over-the-top and it seemed to me like he was over acting. Something that I did enjoy about this film was the way that it was shot. I find it so impressive when a film is able to create an aesthetic conducive of the time period of when it takes place.
Like I mentioned previously, I did not like this film at all. However, the overall reviews for this film have been very good and it has already grossed almost $50M which tells me that I am in the minority here. Longlegs is currently playing in theaters and if you do see it, comment below on what you thought of it!
